When my brother died in 88' my Mother took his baseball and some football cards and split them up between us sisters. I loved looking at them. I would buy the Beckett magazine and look to see if I had any money cards. I wasn't about to sell them, just curious. True confession I did trade one of my Mickey Mantle All Star card (I had 2) which was worth some change back then for a MJ baseball card, that was worth $1 to my cousin. He was thrilled.
Bryan caught my bug for trading cards and with his paper route money (after he put some away for his first car - He was 11) he would go to the card shop a block away from the house and buy some cards. Basketball were his favorite, thanks in part to Michael Jordan. I loved to watch him open his packs. We both were wishing for a MJ card. He (we) did manage to collect all the Garbage Pail cards when they came out.
His love for trading cards has been passed onto his boys. Pokemon is the craze right now, but they like looking at sports ones too.
What a great time to haul out the bins in the basement so the boys can see what Dad had collected in his youth. I was a little curious to see them again too.

Bryan kinda knew what cards he had, but had no idea what they were worth. So many basketball rookie cards. He had to have had about 45 MJ cards. His basketball, His baseball and even some of him playing golf. I probably bought those. He just needed to take them all home and go thru them.
He told me that trading cards are really HOT right now. Yeah ok...
I wanted to be the cool Grandma and get them some for Easter. I looked at the grocery store. I mean who buys cards at a grocery store. Well, the joke was on me.
This is what I saw, along with stacks of empty boxes.

I haven't given up. I'm on the look out everywhere I go.
They will just have to be satisfied with looking at Bryan's for now.
