Logan Fan Club

Roger, Luke and Owen know that their Kribs cousins play football. They have been out to watch both Dylan, 2 years ago and Logan this year play.
I thought it would be cool if they had Genoa football t-shirts to wear. I ordered them online and it took forrreeeever to get them.
It was worth the wait - they loved them and Logan was excited to see his new members of his fan club.

New Shed

I have been wanting a new shed for a couple years now. I even went as far as choosing one and pricing it. I don't know what stopped me from getting it. Ok, maybe I didn't want to deal with it. I just know that I really hated my old one. It had a dirt floor and smelled like dead mice.
Mike must of been tired of hearing me complain, because he went with me over to Home Depot and we looked at them. I found one I liked a little bigger than the one I had with a floor. With a floor!!!
He gave them his email address for a follow up and the next thing I know my shed was ordered.
I was SO excited.

We planned a "take down the old shed" party.
Logan agreed to help. He is just a joy - He always is there to help.
Bryan brought the boys along. They were so excited to tear something apart. I gave them each a hammer and told them to have at it. They worked at doing everything. Pounding the sides off. Striping the shingles. Stoking the fire.

We had a fire going all day, but still had a huge pile that took me 3 hours the next day. We lucked out with perfect weather all week.
 We still have a load of shingles that needs removal.

The new shed is 2 feet longer than the old one so Mike had to enlarge the base and level it out.
I could hardly wait to 4 days for them to come and install the new one. It came prefab so the install only took these 2 guys three hours to put together.

Team Robo Kids

That time of year again when we put on our walking shoes and take a 5K stroll around the University of Chicago campus for Comers Children's Hospital. This campus is beautiful.

Dr. Gundeti greeted us like old friends. I can see why Mary and Bryan put their trust and care of Luke in his hands.

The weather was perfect - bright sunshine and 58 at the start of the walk. Warmed up later.
Every year Dr. Gunedi gives his team t-shirts. This year we were not too hard to spot on the walk. We were the people in orange.

I was lagging behind a little (ok, maybe a lot) around the 2 mile marker when  Roger hangs back to walk with me. I told him my feet were starting to hurt and he confessed that his legs were tired. Misery loves company.
I still love to walk this walk for Comers. Luke is getting such great care there and seems to be improving each yearly check up.

Myrtle Beach

After a cancellation of our trip because of Dorian, Mike and I finally got to visit one of the places we both enjoy - Myrtle Beach.
The airlines and the hotel both changed our plans without any trouble. The only thing that messed up was the car rental. We get there and no has any cars available, except Enterprise, who took advantage of the supply and demand adage and charged us double.
Oh well, we made it to our vacation.
Now for rest and relaxation.
Our first stop was at our favorite beachside bar downtown to have some wings (Mike) and a draft (me) while we waited for our room.

Most of our vacations are decided on where we go, by both of us and the planning of the trip is all me. Well Mike did this vacation - all of it. The air travel - the hotel - the car rental and he even picked the golf courses we played.
The place we stayed was just a few blocks  north on downtown.
The first day we spent lounging by the ocean, just enjoying the sound of the waves and the sand under our feet.
We rented an umbrella. I told Mike that the life guards play attention to 2 kinds of people. The hot chicks and the old people like us, cause we got a prime spot.

Day 2 was golf. Mike picked a course that we played with the Dupplers one time we were down there years ago. It is the oldest course in MB - Pine Lakes. It was downtown and close to our hotel. We partnered up with a couple from Maine who was there celebrating her 70th. She was also a twin.
It was a good day.
Mike has always wanted to play the TPC (It's in Florida). Me - I always loved Augusta. So it was a given that we would play the World Tour golf course on our 3rd day. This course is duplicates of famous hole from around the world.

The back side had Amen corner from Augusta. If the azaleas were in bloom I would swear that we were there. It was spooky.

This course was too long for me (Mike loved it) and playing 2 days in a row. MB golf is much easier at 37 then 67.
The weather was getting hotter as the week went by so we decided to visit "Broadway at the Beach" for a day. We took advantage of the 2 for 1 coupons that came with the condo and visited the aquarium  where I touched a large horned crab, a jelly fish, and a shark. I took a pass on the stingrays.

 Then on to this strange looking place. It wasn't there our last visit. It's called Wonder Works. A place where wonders are experienced and explained. I still sometimes did not get it.

Mike and I both decided that our little grandkids would Love this place.

We had a great week. It seemed to me that MB is getting more commercial and larger.
Either that or I am getting older and slower. Nah.....

PowderPuff

Usually we have been going out to Genoa High School to watch Dylan and now Logan play football. Not this time - Kaylyn is now a freshmen and she was participating in the Homecoming Powderpuff flag football game. I could tell you that she is wearing #23 but they all are. That's their Graduation year. Yikes...

But it was fun to watch.

"Nailed It"

Netflix has a baking show called "nailed It'. Mary and Bryan watch it and told me about it. I thought it was silly and rather watch a real baking show. Turns out the twins love it.
They really wanted to try it and asked me and Sharen if we wanted to join them. I was so excited. First, I thought that both would want to be with Grandma and there would be some arguing. Nope - the twins wanted Older twins - me and Kendell against the younger twins - Sharen and Kallie.
Carrie, the twins Mother, picked out our theme.
The girls love unicorns so that part was a no brainer.
Mine and Sharen's first plan was to get the girls something to remember the day. I made them unicorn aprons and Sharen just had to make the golden baking hats - that's part of the show. A trip was taken to JoAnnes.

We spent one day strategizing on color, flavor, size, decorations and shopping. Kendell and I headed first to Hobby Lobby while Sharen and Kallie hit up Wal-mart. We stayed in touch by texts so we don't run into each other. Our next stop was Meijer while they hit Hobby Lobby.
It was finally baking day.
We all decorated Sharen's dining room table for the judging.

Kendell and I head down to my house. We had 5 hours to bake our cakes.
We decided on a 3 layer vanilla cake with buttercream frosting.
Kendell really wanted to use fondant so we tried that too.

Kendell was so knowledgeable with just what she wanted and how to go about it. My only problem with her was curbing her enthusiasm. She wanted to do it all - at the same time.

Sharen had the same thing going in her kitchen only Kallie has just a little bit more patience and I heard did things in order.

These girls were rocking this.This was my first time baking a cake from scratch and ours was way over baked. We knew it. We decided to concentrate on the frosting. I knew we would be better at that. I have made buttercream frosting for 40 years - Sharen not so much.


We colored our frosting the same as our layers in our cake and striped it into our bags.
Kendell had a great time using my cake decorating tips and did the whole cake.

We also used some modeling chocolate and made some unicorns to put around the cake. The unicorns and the fondant stars never made the cake. we were running out of time and couldn't make them stick where we wanted them. I told Kendell my favorite phrase in decorating anything. "When in doubt, leave it out."


Time for judging.
We carefully get the cake in the car and head down to Sharens house.
Kallie was standing in the window waiting for us. She ran out of the house and into Kendell arms and they hugged. My eyes teared up. That right there is some twin love.


We were all so excited to see each others cakes.
Their cake was decorated so good. I thought we were in trouble.

We head downstairs so the judges could talk about our cakes. Kendell and Kallie did not stop talking and all Sharen and I did was look at each other and smile.

Kendell and I win on Originality - just what we were hoping for with leaving some of our hard work off the cake.

Kallie and Sharen win for Creativity - They did go all out with decorating and the surprise chocolate balls in the center really took them over the top.

I knew we would win the frosting, but I'm pretty sure their cake was better. I really have to take the judges say so on this I don't eat cake.

I had so much fun doing this.
I'm really not sure who this meant the most too. Carrie and I have always had a special connection and I am so glad that she wants me to be a part of her twins lives. I love that Sharen will share her grandma time with the girls, with me. Sharen and I will always have each other backs and do things together and I can see that for these twins too.
These girls are something else. I love to watch them together, their special language, their sharing, their bond. I sometimes wonder if that's what people saw in me and Sharen.


We are planning something for Christmas break, but don't be surprise if something comes up at Halloween.

Chicago for Lunch with Bryan

I have been downtown Chicago many times. Always with Mike taking care of travel arrangements. I mostly just tagged along.
He was busy on Bryan's birthday so Sharen offered to come with me to have lunch with Bryan. She has only been downtown twice. Once years ago when we were on the Oprah show and once a few years ago the four of us went down for Christmas. Her trips to Chicago was always to see a White Sox game.
We caught the train at Big Timber with plenty of time to buy our return tickets at Union station and make the walk to Bryan work.

We board the train and the conductors tells us they have a 2 day ticket special for lollapalooza $15.
That means we didn't have to stop and get our return ticket and could sightsee as we walked to Bryans work.
I was very surprised how wide the sidewalks were and so clean. My last walk was down the streets of NYC - no comparison.

After lunch we decided to explore the city.
We stop at Daley Plaza for a farmers market. We were looking for something sweet after lunch. A lady was handing out sample cookies on the corner. Score...
We see some men who were talking into their lapels with ear pieces in. They were surrounding mayor Lightfoot as she walked down the street. She is really tiny. We decided to walk across the street and avoid the chaos that she could bring.
Next stop was the Pritzer Pavilion and the Lurie gardens.  We wanted to walk over to Maggie Daley Park but the bridge over was closed.
We had to stop for a picture at the bean. Doesn't everyone.

The next we see the lions at the Art Institute.

We were becoming the old ladies that people come up on and have to figure out how to walk around them. We didn't care - having fun.
Mike and I took all 3 of Stacy's kids downtown when they turned 13 and we would ride the EL around the loop. We would pass by the Harold Washington Library and I always wanted to go inside.

Sharen was interested too, so we walked to it.
I was sooo disappointed. Not at all what I expected. Everything was bright and modern with escaladers and elevators, bright lights and all metals bookcases. No wood anywhere.
We did want to check out a veterans memorial on the 4th floor. That was pretty cool.

The weather was perfect. There was a breeze off the lake and the sun was shining.
We just kept walking around making our way back to Unions Station and noticed that the lollapalooza crowd were forming.
Lots and lots of teenagers dressed like I'm pretty sure we could never get away with, streaming down the street to Grant park to have some fun and listen to some music.
Time to get outa town.
I'm so glad Sharen decided to go. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't or couldn't do it alone. I got to spend some time with Bryan and give him a hug on his birthday.
I also spent some quality time with my Twin.
