Tree falls on House

It’s been exactly 1 month since a huge tree in our backyard decided it had had enough and just dropped right on our house. Right on the anniversary of us moving into here. 22 years ago.

A really large tree

The neighbors came rushing over. The noise was pretty loud and shook the whole house. Sharen came down after I texted her a picture. It was about 6:40 in the morning and Mike and I were both up reading the paper. Good thing too because a branch found its way into the bedroom made a hole and damaged a good portion of the drywall.

There was rain in the forecast, but thank god we got “our tree guy”. He came right over spent about 3.5 hours clearing the tree.

It was already down so no bucket truck

Lost in the huge hole

Removed everything
It was such a relief to see that we didn’t have enough damage that we had to leave. Just a huge hole in the roof with some structural damage. Tree missed the neighbors house and our air conditioner unit. We got lucky.

Mike called Dylan and Logan and they came a running. Logan left work (at Menards) with everything we needed to cover the whole side of the roof that was damaged. Bryan showed up to lend a hand and to make sure we were ok. We are so so lucky to have such a strong caring family.

Dylan and Logan got the hole covered in wood - didn’t want the tarp to collect water - and it started to sprinkle. Oh.oh. Then came the lightning. They threw the tarp down and got the hell off the roof. The skies opened up.

Got it covered just in time
It poured, but just for a 1/2 hour or so.

Then the 3 younger guys got up on the now slippery roof to spread the tarp and secured it down. We didn’t get a drop of water in the house.

All covered just in time. It rained for the next 2 days.
Now we are working with a contractor whose is working with our insurance company to try and get it fixed. Mike and I have never had to deal with anything like this before. We really have no idea what is involved -but we are learning. We got a partial payout from our insurance so the tree guy got paid. We still need to find a handyman to replace the drywall in the bedroom. But we will get it all done I’m sure of that.
I told IR Tree removal that I would be calling him come fall to have a few more trees looked at.
This is scary stuff. A TREE FELL ON OUR HOUSE!
