Hilton Head - Trip to Charleston

This was our first trip to Hilton Head.

I found a beautiful condo right on the ocean with a very private, secure, small resort. Everything down there was private and secure. They have very strict codes on building (sizes and colors) and signs. All the gas stations, stores, restaurants were brown. All the signs couldn't be over 12 ft tall. Even the Walmart - brown.  I talked with a lady sitting by the pool who filled me in. She says you get used to it they don't want to take away from the mystic of the place. We found it all with our GPS.

I will admit the walking/bike trails are beautiful. I guess bikes are the mode for transportation down there, but way too many for me.

Morning walk

Without our clubs we decided that we would take a trip up to Charleston to visit Ft. Sumter and tour a southern plantation.

The plantation was just what I had pictured in my mind. From the long driveway. The slave quarters. The plantation and gardens. All were Beautiful.

We ate our quick lunch that I was so happy I thought to pack, because we needed to get over to the Ferry to take us out to the Fort.
Yes, we got to drive over the iconic bridge.

Mike loves History - especially Civil War.
Me, I enjoy some. We both enjoyed the visit to Ft. Sumter. It was a 30 minute ferry ride over to the island. They let you walk around and read all the info on your own and then give a talk about the war.

This place was impressive to know that it was 1861 and soldiers were fighting for their lives on a little island with no way off. They had no choice but to fight with everything they had. They fought for 280 days and 46,000 projectiles were fired at them. (I was paying attention) They stayed strong.
I'm glad Mike drags me to these places.
