Twin Talk

When I saw this video I just had to call Carrie and share with her just what she is in for. I also called my twin and shared it with her.

If you don't smile when you watch it - then you are clearly not into babies.

Oh Yeah - that language thing never goes away. It gets better too - Sharen and I can communicate without any words.

Donkey Basketball

Stacy's middle school was having a Donkey basketball game against the police and Stacy signed up to ride for her school. The kids in her class talked her into it. It was the funniest thing, I could not stop laughing.
Her donkey's was a little guy named Action Jackson and he liked to run and pull her along.

She tried to get on.

And fell on her ass.

After several attempts and a $20 bribe she finally made it on his back, but he wasn't going to listen to her and just followed the other donkeys around.

The police won her game (there were 4 - 8 minute games) 2-0 in overtime. You had to actually be ON a donkey to shoot a basket and the teacher team had a hard time staying on their donkeys. There was 1 major accident when the IT guy at her school fell off his donkey and broke his arm. I am very sure there are a few teachers and cops out there that are really sore this morning.
Much too the delight of the kids, time outs and the "pooper scoopers" had to be called in several times.

Mystery Reader

A while ago Stacy called and asked me if I would like to be "Mystery Reader" in Kaylyn's kindergarten class.

When Bryan was in grade school I helped out in his kindergarten class and was his room mother all through the six grade.

So I said "are you kidding - Hell Yeah!!!"

Today I went to Kaylyn's school with a book I picked out at the library to read to the class.

The student teacher was running the class today (the regular teacher was in teacher conferences) and she met me outside the room. She wanted me to announce myself and see if anyone could recognize my voice.

"Good morning boys and girls - I am your Mystery Reader today".

Kaylyn didn't even raise her hand for a guess. I walked into her room and the teacher said. "If this person belongs to you, stand up."

Thank God Kaylyn stood and announced. "That's my Grandma Karen." My heart melted.

The book I brought was about a boy who wanted to send his Granny who lived far far away a hug for her birthday. The boy wanted to send a real hug so he gives the postmaster a hug and he hugs the next person and so on and so on...

There is a line in the book that says "and he throws his arms out as far as he could" and every time I read that line I had all the kids spread their arms out. They were so so cute.

When the story was done all the kids came and gave me a hug. ALL of them. I wanted to cry it was so sweet.

Since the kids were having an early out day I hung around Genoa to be there when they got off the bus. It was a sunshine day and the boys played football in the side yard with their buddies and Kaylyn helped me pick out a nail polish color from her stash for my toenails. Thank god it wasn't for my nails cause I am now walking around with Blue Raspberry toes.

I love being a Grandma.

Seussical the Musical

The plans were for the grand kids to come over Saturday night and have dinner and hang out with us, while Stacy and Kory attended a birthday party at the Tilted Kilt.

That was until the cast of the Genoa-Kingston High School play, Seussical the Musical, came to their schools on Friday and did a skit to promote their play.

Mike and I took the three of them to the play at the high school instead. Mike was thrown back in time to his HS days when he performed in all the plays.

Kaylyn really loved it - she would dance along with the characters. Thank goodness we were in the last row and she could stand and move around. Logan thought it was awesome!
Dylan liked it but was bored and thought we should go home at the intermission.

Mike and I both enjoyed it for what it was - a High School Play.

We took the kids home and before they went to bed Kaylyn and Mike competed in a game of Tinkerbell hopscotch.

Me and Bella just watched.

Mom

Today is my Mother's 88th birthday.
What do you get someone that age? Every time you ask her she says she doesn't need anything. I was very surprised this year when she said she wanted a gift card to Walmart so she can get some personable items.
Good - I think I can handle that.

Thirty years ago, when Mom was the age I am now, it wasn't the case. It was a horrible time in my life and I was counting every penny. I just couldn't afford anything. So, I wrote Mom a poem. I actually wrote her the poem for Mother's Day that year and framed it for her for her birthday.

It still hangs on her bedroom wall along side the one I wrote for Dad that year.
It still means everything today!

According to Dear Abbey on this Mother's Day,
presents are out give her something to save.

Forget about the perfume, and the bath oil beads,
Write your thoughts down, give her something to read.

So here I am Mom, now where do I start?
Everything I say comes straight from my heart.

If I need one word to explain You - Now Mom don't faint!
I think I would say "My Mom she's a Saint"

You had seven kids, that itself is a feat,
A Mother like you is sure hard to beat.

When Bryan is driving me straight up the wall,
I wonder how you did it considering us all.

You worked full time, You gave your fair share,
But I never remember you not being there,

You cooked big meals at the end of your day,
We never went hungry, I guess that was your way.

We had clothes on our backs and toys all about.
I can never remember ever doing without.

You taught me what patience is all about.
I know I tried yours - there is no doubt.

I think of you often when things get askew.
I ask myself what would my Mom do?

You'd take a deep breath, take a second look,
Maybe turn the other way, whatever it took.

You gave us our freedom. You let us roam.
Until we pushed too hard, you then call us home.

I thought we had you fooled with the things we'd do.
But now looking back I know you knew.

You showed us guidance - How to give and to share.
Hell - We even did it when you weren't there.

I know now it's not easy being a Mother.
For the first time in my life I'm responsible for another.

I sure hope some of your mothering has rubbed off on me.
I want Bryan to know how good it can be.

For to have a Mother to love and know she loves you.
It's the greatest feeling shared by two.

There is one thing I need to say before I'm through
Mom - I Love You!!

Mystery Quilt Part 2

I got up early this morning. (Mike actually had to set the alarm).
He is headed off to Reno to bowl and I volunteered to drive them all into the airport.
We made two stops and picked up his teammates - Dave D. and Charlie.
Dave gets in the car and announces that the weather here is supposed to be rainy and cold this weekend and wants to know if I had plans. Of Course I do.

And I really do not care what the weather will be like because....

I got my second step in the "Mystery Quilt".
I will be measuring, cutting, cutting some more, measuring and cutting, and then doing some sewing.

I thought I had an idea what this quilt would look like after the 32 nine patch blocks we made last month, but then I read this months instructions.

SO SO excited. Triangles - I just love quilts that have triangles in them.

Cutting:
192 quarter-square triangles from fabric one (that's the light material)
64 half-square triangles from fabric one

Quarter-square triangle = take a 4 inch square piece of materail and cut it corner to corner both directions
Half-square triangle = take a 4 inch square piece of material and cut corner to corner once in half

64 squares from fabric 2 (the secondary accent material)

and 32 rectangles from fabric 3 (the focus fabric)

and then we have to sew these pieces together!

Thank God, she gave us clear and exact instructions. Sharen flinched a little at the list of instructions, but I assured her that she can handle it. We do have all month to complete it.

So, Dave, that is what I will be doing this weekend. I am going to cut and sew, and cut and sew, and I am pretty sure that I will not notice that Mike is away!
