New TV

I do not see the fascination in these ginormous TVs.
I can't grasp HD or see a need to have it.
I have caught a Bears game and Bulls game on Bryan's large TV and enjoyed it - not enough to go out and buy a new TV though.
My TV is as tall as it is wide - a perfect square. granted it's 10 years old but it still works just fine.
It fits neatly into my cabinet so I can close the doors and it's not the main focus of the family room.

Today I was singing a new tune. We were at Costco and just as you walk in the door among all the HD TV's there it was. A 3D TV!
I could of been it that commercial where the girl is staring at the TV and puts her hand over the salesman mouth. Mike and I put on the 3D glasses and I could of stood there till the movie was over. It caught my attention that's for sure.
We measured the width, and the size of TV I would want will not fit into my cabinet, so I will watch my old stand by until it peters out on me. Then maybe a new cabinet to fit a new 3D TV.

Hand me Downs

Paula a sweet old lady calls every once in awhile to see if I have any thing for Amvets. I usually try to find something, just because she is so sweet. She always asks about the grandkids and how we are doing. She keeps our closets clean that's for sure.

This last time I got to thinking as I was searching through the closet - I bet I could use these dress shirts for something.
Light Bulb moment!!!  DIAPERS.....

So I visited Mary and Roger and we went through Bryan's old shirts.
Roger will soon be kicking it in his Daddy's old hand me downs.

Dylan turned 12

Yikes!!

Genoa didn't have school on Friday so we got to visit with the kids. It turned out to be a good idea to celebrate Dylan's 12th birthday too. His birth date (12/29) is so close to Christmas it gets lost in the hustle of the holidays.

They played in the front yard on the little slope with their new sleds and then dragged out the Twister game AGAIN!

Brian stopped by and joined in the game with Dylan and Kaylyn.
When Stacy was finished with her meetings she stopped by to pick up Kaylyn and Logan and was talked into one round of Twister. I of course avoided all the twister games by hiding out in the kitchen making Dylan homemade Mac n cheese. :) Mike twisted his knee sledding with the kids so he took a pass too.
Papa and the birthday boy before they headed out for the movie.

Dylan choose the Golden Corral for his birthday dinner. It was my first visit. A perfect opportunity to over eat. Ugh!

I remember driving him and Stacy home from the hospital the day after he was born and now a 12 yr old Middle School student. Nuts.....

Tags

I started quilting 12 years ago.
I am self taught and must admit I am not to proud of my first endeavors. So I did not like to tag my quilts. Still Don't!

After getting scolded by my sisters when I made them each a quilt for their birthdays a few years back, I try to tag my quilts with my initials and the year that I made them. I hide them so you really have to go looking for them, but they are there - somewhere.

I think my days of hiding are over. This Christmas I got tags from Mary and Erica.

My first quilt wearing the tag from Erica. It says "Quilted with Love". I signed my initials and date under the tag and sent it to it's new owner this morning. No turning back.

I have since decided that if I can sew a quilt I certainly should be able to try other things. Good Thing too!

The tags I got from Mary are going to have to be reserved for very specific, special people, because they say "Made by Grandma". So Roger is wearing them on his reusable diapers.

Dylan will be sporting his on his Colts PJ's. Yes, even with the sorry year the colts have had this year he is still a fan.

There She Was

Sharen found her on facebook.
Our old neighbor, Barb.

Sharen, Mary, Barb, Me, Barb's baby sister Donna - who we mostly ignored, and her big Bro Jim (affectionately known as Jungle Jim).

She was "our" best friend. She was the other end to our jump rope. She was our outfield when we played kickball and wiffel ball in the street. We would spend hours everyday climbing the weeping willow in her yard all the way to the top just to sit and talk. We played holly, red rover, I draw a circle, Hope to see the ghost tonight, old maid, war, 4 square and of course Barbies.

We got caught stealing green apples from the neighbors tree, almost burning down her father's garage, got sick from eating "giggle gas" (a mixture of green apples and green grapes in salt water that we thought was delicious). We rode bikes, swam, fed the ducks and the deer, and played in Lords Park. We always had some kind of "fort" to hide in, hanging blankets from the swingset to the grapevine to the sand box. We rode roller skates, and homemade skate boards around the block. We took the same block walking on stilts and walking around wearing funny costumes.

As this picture proves she was the middle to make us complete!

Her Mother was a short very Italian Mom who would hang clothes on the line everyday. She taught me how to properly hang everything from shirts to socks. She would hang pasta over all the chairs in the house on homemade pasta day. She would iron all the family's clothes on a padded iron press. She had a garden with tomatoes and lettuce that we would steal and make huge salads and eat with our fingers out of the same bowl. I am pretty sure Ma Franz knew about the garden thing because she always had homemade Italian dressing in the frig. She would pay us 10 cents to weed the garden - which we did happily so we could go the the corner grocery store. Max's Grocery's.

I'm not sure her Father was a big man, but he had a very big presence. He drove a VW beetle and had miniature dogs for pets. He was a photographer and had his own darkroom in the basement. He later built a bedroom into a bigger darkroom and gave us the basement room. He handed over his leftover film, papers, and old cameras so we could discover the wonder of pictures. He would take the time and show us how to use the big enlarger and carefully helped us mix all the chemicals. It was always thrilling to slowly watch the picture come to life in the developer. And then the rinse and yes we even hung them on the line to dry. All the trouble we would get into this is one thing we NEVER would mess with. Old man Franz's chemicals.
I wish I had more of our pictures we took.

Me and Barb smelling the flowers. I am not sure why we are in our swim suits.

Us borrowing the car for a run down.

She was even there with us on vacations.
I think Sharen  was more interested in getting a view of the lake than me and Barb.

We went out for a fish fry and stopped at this monument. I am sure Mom did this to torture us.
She was a year younger in school and as we got to middle school we each had our own circle of friends (even Sharen and I had our separate group) and we grew apart.

She became a barber and later a hairdresser. She cut mine and Mike's hair for awhile and then she broke her back and had to quit so we lost touch again.

Fast forward to Dec. 2011. Sharen looked her up on facebook and friended her. She answered in less than an hour and we have been emailing back and forth ever since. She works part time as a photographer. Her Dad would be so proud.

We are planning a get together this summer. She has a house on a lake and invited us there. Really looking forward to it.
