Are you sisters?

Sharen and I dressed alike when we were little. All our clothes were matching and we loved it.
Nobody had to ask us if we were twins, the proof was in the pudding.

As we got older (jr high - which is now called middle school) we were asked to not dress the same to not confuse the teachers so we would wear the same clothes only in different colors.

In high school we had our own ideas of what looked good and we rarely dressed the same, though we did find some things that we would share.
At this point the easiest way to tell us apart was simple - I always had long hair and Sharen would wear hers short. Sharen - short.

We are twins. We look the same -there is no mistake about it.

Now as adults when we are out and about together we get asked if we are sisters, and the response from both of us, usually at the same time, is "twins".

Do we still look alike? Do we still look like twins?
I still can see Sharen when I walk by a window or mirror and catch my reflection then I realize No that's me.
But is that what other people see?

Apparently the answer is Yes - we still do look alike.
How do I know?  Facebook said so!
When Bryan posted a picture of me and Roger on his facebook page he was asked if that was Sharen?

More Roger

He came home today.
I know the first days when the baby comes home can be consuming. I know that Mary's parents are there for help. I knew that I had to do something - plus I needed to see that my son was OK.
So I do what I know how to do best and that is cook.

I threw together a couple of dinners and took them into the city. Oh, and I got to take a few more pictures of you know who.

A picture for my Mother who didn't believe me about all Roger's hair.

Here is Bryan telling Roger all about what they are going to watch on TV tonight. Monday Night Raw. I'm sure that Roger realizes how excited his Daddy is about wrestling and agreed to give it a try. Really, that is what Bryan is telling him.

It's A Boy!

As a parent you never want the phone to ring in the middle of the night.
When the phone rang at 3:07am my maternal instincts kicked in and my heart skipped a second.  Then I realized "baby"!!!
Bryan was calling from the hospital. Yes, Mary's water had broke at home and they were at the hospital. Bryan assures us that it was going to be awhile just to come on in when we get up in the morning. Did he really expect me to go back to sleep?
The phone rang again at 7:28am it was Bryan. Mary has dilated to 8.5 centimeters and is just getting her epidural, come when you can. We hopped into the car and were on our way to welcome our new grandchild.

Thank God the weather had cleared up. (Bryan tells me they traveled to the hospital in all that rain and it was a nail biter).

Bryan looked exhausted and we headed on over to Starbucks for some much needed caffeine. Mary had drifted off after her epidural.
Now it was only a matter of waiting. The waiting room was busy with other families so far 2 girls and 1 boy.

Bryan was going back and forth from Mary to the waiting room and back to Mary. When he didn't show up for awhile I asked to go back to the room and they told me NO. That could only mean one thing. The baby was coming. So we wait.

Bryan comes into the waiting room and announces "It;s a boy!". Right then I was so glad that they didn't tell the sex of the baby, because the smile and joy on Bryan's face was something that will stay with me always.

Roger Lester Flory entered the world at 11:59am 7/23/11.

He weighed in at 7lbs, 3 oz. and was 20 inches in length. And you can't see it here, but a full head of curly dark hair.
This picture was taken at about 1 hour old. He was looking to his Mother to find out what the fuss was all about.

Father and son.

Proud grandparents

Lookout

Her name is Bea and she lives across the street from us.

She's 76 years old and when she gets behind the wheel of her car - You get out of her way. When Sharen and I are out walking and we see her coming down the street we move all the way into the ditch and still pray that she sees us and not hit us.

She has run into our garbage cans on pickup day and ended up with theirs under her car. Numerous times she has backed into the ditch in front of their house. So it was just a matter of time before she took out our mailbox.
She claims to have been distracted by another neighbor walking her dog.

Her roommate (she tells everyone that they are NOT married) came over to the house to break the news to us. We had a good laugh - we all knew It was just a matter of time.

So Mike put in a new post. We are still using the old mailbox until I decide what I want. I'm thinking of getting a plain white one so I can paint something on it.

I was just commenting on all the mailboxes in Carrie's subdivision that have flowers planted around them. Why do people do that? I am sure that the mailman has had to battle a few bees and on some you can't see their fire number.
After looking at our new white post I think a few flowers around it is just what it needs.

Twins or snake

While I was sitting with the twins. (Carrie had to take Matthew to the doctor ) Mike was very busy. Seems like Carrie was right the only good snake is a dead snake.

YES that little f**er came back. Mike found it sunning in the same spot. It was not gonna go easy this time so Mike took a shovel and chopped it's head off. Bye Bye snake. I am so glad I wasn't home.

Carrie had the girls all dressed for my visit.
Your Auntie loves you too,  Miss Kendell!

And of course it is the Auntie's job to spoil the great nieces.

When Carrie walked out the door, I kid you not, Kallie let me know that she needed to be picked up and right NOW!
While I was walking and talking with Miss Kallie. I turned around and Kendell just fell asleep. No rocking, no bottle, no pacifier, just close her eyes and slept.

Then Kallie decided that it was a good idea to take a little catnap too and down she went.

Now I wonder is it because they trust me and are relaxed enough to fall asleep or do the think I am totally boring?

Mary's Shower

I had my family over to shower Mary.
Breakfast was served at 10:00am and present were opened.
I pulled out one of Bryan's old favorite stuffed animals.
Here is ALF dressed in one of Bryan's t-shirts. Hard to imagine he was ever that small.
Bryan came with and was going to go through the boxes of his "childhood treasures" that we have stored in the basement and take what he still wanted. Now that they have room.
Bryan has always been a saver - still is - so we have lots of boxes of treasures.
Just like in the past Andy came with and they ended up going through Bryan's "Garbage pail Kids" card collection and reminiscing. He has them All. Every single one ever printed. In Plastic. In binders. STILL in our basement.

I asked everyone to bring a book to start baby Flory's library.
Yes, I was the one who bought (for Bryan) "Go the F* to Sleep." We had to assure Mary's mother that it would not get read to the baby. It was just a joke and the book is really, really funny.
You can tell by Mary's smile.

Is it a boy or a girl?
Will it have Bryan's eyes or Mary's mouth?
Will it be fair skinned like Mary or dark like it's father?
How big will it be?
Will it have any hair? what color?
All of that is fun to guess and talk about, but the only thing that really matters is, is that it's strong and healthy and things go good at delivery.

In just a few weeks I will get to meet my new grandchild and I am thrilled.

Thanks Michelle for taking the pictures.

As a kid

As a kid you walk along the creek thinking it will lead you to the ocean
As a grownup, you see it leads no where and turn back around

As a kid you scamper down to wade in the water
As a grownup, you look down and wonder if I go down there how do I get back up the steep bank

As a kid you stack big rocks and sticks to build a dam so the water gets deep to wade in
As a grownup you wonder if that dam the kids built will flood the creek to your doorstep

As a kid you carry your flip flops cause your feet are wet
As a grownup you ask "Why didn't I wear better shoes instead of these stupid flip flops?"

As a kid you chase fire flies to check out the small flashlights that you know they Must carry
As a grownup you swat at the mosquitoes and hope that crawly thing on your back isn't a tick

As a kid you want to sit on the pier and dangle your feet in the water
As a grownup you see the green slime over the water and think "EEW"

As a kid you squat down to investigate the footprints in the mud
As a grownup you look down at the footprint and hope the animal is long gone

As a kid you carry a big stick because You are the next Daniel Boone
As a grownup you carry that big stick to beat off any animals that might pop out of the bushes

As a kid you follow the path hoping it leads to somewhere exciting
As a grownup you take the path that's the shortest

As a kid you think the matted down grass and dirt that you stumbled upon is where the space ship landed
As a grownup your realize Holy Crap, that's probably where the coyotes live

As a kid you race back to the house "last one there is a rotten egg"
As a grownup you walk really fast thinking is that all I got

As a kid you sit in the grass and eat a 2 stick popcicle that drips down your arms and down your shirt thinking That was crazy fun!
As a grownup you sit  in the air conditioning with a chilled glass of wine and think that was crazy

So next time Sharen, if you want to go out on another adventure Call me - Cause even if we are all grownup now - that was still crazy fun!

Thankful Thursdays

I love reading Michelle's and Jessica's blogs when they reflect on most Thursdays on how thankful they are for the going's on in their lives.

Today, I stood in my kitchen and realized, just in one day, how much I am truly thankful for-

Summers in the Midwest
The opportunity to open my windows and let the air and sunshine in

For a Mother who taught me how to follow a recipe and be a baker
For good "hand me down" recipes to follow

For mixing bowls with handles
For my wooden rolling pin

For the library's free CD's to update my Ipod selection
Blasting my Ipod while I bake (oh Yeah, and sing along)

The great feeling I get when the breads and rolls come out looooooking good
And the way my kitchen smells after they come out of the oven

For a husband who stays out of my way
Then offers to clean up the mess when I'm done

For a beautiful daughter-in-law who makes my son very happy
And gives me a reason to bake!

Because Mom said so....

Mom called me just awhile ago and told me to get the snake off my blog - she was tired of seeing it.
She asked me to post pics of Bryan and Mary's move so here they are.

I headed into the city early Thursday morning to help Mary with the last minute packing, to keep her company till the movers came, and to keep an eye on her to make sure she didn't over due it.

They had things all under control and most everything packed. Mary cleaned out under the sink and I rolled up the wires from both TVs and we waited. And waited. And visited.
The movers finally called little after 4 and said they were at the condo address. We hop in the car and meet them over there. It took no time for them to empty the few things they had stored there.

The movers thought that was it. Opps, seems their office lady didn't tell them about the second stop and it being a 3 floor walk up.
The weather was muggy and they were tired from their first job (which took longer than they thought) so they moved realllllly slow. They were getting paid by the hour.
I stayed down with the truck (I actually had people stop and look into the truck) and Mary was directing the move in the apartment. These people nickle and dime you! You pay for each role of tape they use. You pay for each time they have to wrap a piece of furniture. You pay for the TV riding in their truck. Huh? If you use their truck for the TV they have to crate it. ($50). Mary told them to put the TVs in my car.

We eventually made it to the new house and they got everything moved in, before the storms came.

It was 10:00pm. Everybody was tired. Mary needed to get off her swelling feet. So Mike and I put their bedroom together and left the happy new homeowners in their air conditioned NEW house with all the boxes..
