Dress Alike

Growing up Sharen and I dressed alike. It was our idea and we usually enjoyed it.

Once on vacation in Myrtle Beach, we stopped in one of those outlet stores just to look around. If you have never been in one of these they are FULL of t-shirts, shorts, tank tops, and sweatshirts of every kind. Turns out we both forgot to pack a sweatshirt and we both ended up buying the same sweatshirt, but different colors - mine was purple and hers was green.
Things like that happen a lot and we just kinda shrug it off. No big deal.

I was surprised when I walked into Sharen's house the other day. It wasn't Sharen that was wearing the same as me.
It was Matthew.
He got the sweatshirt from his Auntie who attends U of I and I got my shirt for bowling.

Turing the Page to chapter 58

It seems like just last year we were having a birthday.

As Sharen and I were walking around Joanne's a couple of week ago. I went for material for a baby quilt for Linda - she was looking for yarn for a project, we wandered into the novelty fabric department.

She mentioned that she wanted a apron like I had made Mary and Carrie. I told her my purse was closed for the month and NO buying any material.

She had the best idea for our birthday. SHE would buy the material and I would make aprons for the both of us.

Sweet!

I brought the material home and showed it to Mike and asked him to guess who's was who's. He snickered and walked away.
COME ON - aren't you going to even guess?
Then he started to laugh, hard.

I mentioned it to Bryan and Mary and wanted them to guess, too. Without showing him the fabric Bryan said: Yours is either red or has hearts on it.
Huh? Really? Am I that predictable?

Which one belongs to who? Here are the aprons!

And I guess it is pretty obvious. Here we are with them on!

Happy Birthday, Sister...

Shhhhhh...

Don't tell Kaylyn but Grandma is having a reeeeeally good time making her Christmas presents.

I am tired of just making quilts. Don't get me wrong I love to do it, especially wedding quilts that I get to not only make, but design too. I love it when the colors come together.

BUT, I love the little projects. I just finished a baby quilt for Linda for a present. I made Mary enough potholders (one for each holiday) to last her a while.
The aprons I made Mary were such a big hit with the Dupplers I made some for them too.
I have been looking for something different and I think I just found my calling.
DOLL CLOTHES.
I saw a book of summer clothes for 18" dolls (American girl size) on sale online and ordered it. I am having so much fun I just ordered the winter clothes book too. I can't wait to try a fur coat or a wool coat with a fur collar.
I love that I don't have to break the bank with buying material. I love that I can use my scraps (Yes, I save all of mine and also collect some from others - Thanks, sisters). I love that it takes me a small amount of time to finish one project.
A friend asked me to make some for her grand daughter too so I am not only making clothes, I am making money - Having fun - who knew?

I hope that Kaylyn has as much fun playing with the clothes as Grandma Karen is having making them.
I am planning on making her a dress to match the one she wore in Bryan and Mary's wedding. Do little girls like to wear matching outfits with their dolls? Because I am in the process of making matching pajamas.

Homecoming

Every football team has a homecoming - even 8 year olds.

The GC Broncos' was this weekend.

The wind howled - The rain poured - The lighting flashed and we huddled around the cars under our umbrella waiting for kickoff.

It finally stopped raining, the sky cleared, and the wind died down - so Game ON!

The boys lined up for their eye black from Kory, and I decided to show my grandson my support and got my game face on, too.
Kaylyn and Dylan thought Grandma had gone crazy, but joined me in the fun.

Logan had his best game so far -
1 fumble recovery
6 tackles (1 open field)
2 sacks
1 safety
1 extra 2pt conversion
a 35 yard touchdown AND

1 proud Grandma....

Ahhh, That's my spot.

I get annoyed when someone is sitting in our pew at church. We sit in the same pew each Sunday. Which makes it our spot, right?

Sharen missed class Monday night because she had her board meeting so I went to class by myself. There were newcomers there and one lady was standing in my spot in the pool.
I always line up with the black box that holds the telephone (my vocal point) and Sharen is in front of the drinking fountains right next to me. Always!
I stood in front of her and I think she finally got the hint. Hellllloooo, this is my spot. Move it!

Well, I decided to try a Yoga class. I didn't want to be that person who just walks in and takes someones spot, so this morning I went over to the fitness center and scooped out a spot for me. I rode the bikes on the second floor where I could see into the yoga class that was going on. It was very clear that people had their special spots (and most had their own mats).

I think there is room for me to the left side middle row. We shall see - or maybe I will just show up late for class and then pick an empty spot.

Will That be All?

It's no secret that my husband loves corn. I enjoy an ear of Klein's once in awhile too. Now that it is in season we eat it a lot.

I stop there at least once a week and get us corn. 4 ears - 2 for him and 2 for me.

Last week when I stopped there the clerk asked me "Will that be all?" I said yes!

A lady behind me asked for 7 dozen. What? I said to the clerk she must be having a picnic?

"Either that or she is freezing it."

AHA Moment! As much corn as Mike's eats and how much he loves it Why am I not freezing Klein's corn?

So when Mike headed over to Klein's on Sunday to get corn to go with the steaks after the Bears game (the boys Bryan and Brian were coming over) I asked him to get me 2 dozen more.

I had the 2 dozen cleaned and cut in no time so I am headed back for some more. I'm going to be the one asking for the 7 dozen this time.

As I was cutting the corn off the cobs I was thinking how great this would taste in my Nebraska corn and Mike's corn chowder this winter.

Bowling has Started

Our Thursday night bowling has started. I still enjoy going to the lanes and getting some excerise, having a few cocktails, and hanging with my friends.
A new team has joined our league and boy do they look young. I commented that I have been bowling in this league before they were even born. OUCH!
I asked around and it was confirmed - that I am the oldest chick in the leauge. I don't mind much, at least I can still out bowl most of them.

Here is my team all cleaned up at Bryan's wedding.

Why would a SOX fan.....

go to a Cubs game?

Because it would be my 3rd trip into the city in 5 days - I think not

cause I didn't have anything better to do - maybe

because the tickets were free and awesome (thanks, Linda) - maybe

because it came with a parking pass - big plus

because the hot dogs were better - NO

because the beer was cheaper (Bud Light = yuck!) - bigger NO

because they were playing the Pirates and might win one - no

because it is on a weekday and called for rains so most fans will stay away - maybe

because the Nachos came ala Reuter (that would be Cheryl's *extra peppers) - could be

because it's Wrigley field - who gives a rats ass

Because she loves her Cub fan husband and stepson - MOST DEFINITELY

On the move Again

With one last move, for awhile anyway. Bryan is settling into married life.
But first we have to move the damn couch again. This sucker doesn't like to be moved and puts up a fight every time it sees a doorway.
It is now comfortably sitting in a garage with boxes and bins full of Bryan's stuff that had no place in the apartment on Leland.

Brian's pickup was a big help moving "Bob" (that's Bryan's name for his big screen TV), the grill, and some misc. must haves, to Leland.

Bryan still has some furniture to move into staging his condo, so we switched cars for the week. I must say his car is like driving a go cart compared to my Caddy. It's a fun little car to drive.
